Beyond the Dyslexia Checklist: Using C-SEP to Conduct Comprehensive, Defensible Dyslexia Evaluations
Dyslexia evaluations should do more than determine eligibility--they should tell the complete story of how a student learns to read. Dr. Tammy Stephens will introduce participants to the Core-Selective Evaluation Process (C-SEP), a hypothesis-driven framework that integrates learning data, classroom performance, intervention response, multiple sources of information, and targeted assessment to conduct comprehensive dyslexia evaluations. Participants will learn how to move beyond isolated test scores by analyzing patterns across phonological processing, orthographic processing, rapid automatized naming, decoding, fluency, language, and reading comprehension while answering the referral question through educationally meaningful conclusions. Using an authentic case study and hands-on activities, participants will strengthen their ability to conduct evaluations that are instructionally relevant, legally defensible, and aligned with current best practices.
