Mastering the Technical Side of One Act Play
This full-day workshop is designed for theatre directors, technical theatre students, and educators looking to strengthen the technical elements of UIL One Act Play competition and production. Led by a director and theatrical design coach whose students have consistently earned recognition for technical excellence—including frequent Overall Best Crew honors—this workshop focuses on practical, real-world approaches to technical theatre in competitive and educational settings.
Participants will explore scenic design and construction, costumes, props, lighting, sound, backstage organization, and efficient set transitions within UIL rules and time limits. Special emphasis will be placed on how theatrical design concepts directly apply to One Act Play production, including costume, sound, set, and lighting design. The session will include hands-on demonstrations, collaborative problem solving, design discussions, and strategies specifically geared toward schools working with limited budget
