HOW NOT TO HATE WRITING: Breaking Bad ECR Habits with True Engagement with Brittaney McKay
What if you could get your students to write an ECR without it feeling miserable—for them or for you?? This session explores how to break the cycle of low-quality, routine ECR writing by replacing quantity with purposeful, high engagement writing tasks that students actually care about. Learn how to strategically target the parts of the writing process students struggle with most by designing engaging, meaningful tasks that naturally lead to stronger claims, clearer reasoning, and purposeful use of text evidence. Participants will leave with practical strategies for using engagement not as a distraction from rigor, but as the pathway to better ECR writing.
