Special Education 101
Special Education 101: Foundations and Resources
This session provides an introductory overview of key components of special education in Texas public schools. Facilitated by two Special Education Liaisons—one a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology and the other a former campus administrator and school counselor—along with Region 14’s Evaluation and Transition Consultant, participants will explore foundational processes that guide special education services and ARD committee decision-making. The training will include a discussion of common ARD scenarios and important considerations when reviewing evaluation practices, services, and documentation. Participants will also be introduced to the Texas SPED Support website and other TEA resources available to assist districts. Additionally, the session will provide a brief overview of measurable annual IEP goals and the key components that support clarity and progress monitoring.
