Storytime Scientists: Bridging Literacy and Inquiry with Bluebonnet
By bringing K-2 RLA and Science teachers together around the Bluebonnet curriculum, we will build a bridge between learning to read and reading to learn. At this age, students are naturally curious scientists, and literacy is the tool that helps them unlock that curiosity. The goal is to use Bluebonnet science passages to turn "reading time" into an exploration and "science time" into a deeper conversation. Instead of teaching in isolation, we align our "teacher talk" so students hear a consistent message: RLA (The "How"): Focuses on phonics within the passage (e.g., finding "silent e" words in a text about plants), retelling the life cycle as a story, and identifying main ideas through pictures.
Science (The "What"): Focuses on observation and inquiry. Students take the facts from the Bluebonnet passage and go "hands-on"—planting the seed they just read about or testing the gravity they just discussed.
Special instructions
