Forensic Science & Criminalistics: Technical Practicum for Educators
This intensive workshop provides educators with a comprehensive suite of laboratory investigations designed to simulate real-world forensic analysis. Participants will engage in high-impact, TEKS-aligned protocols ranging from trace evidence recovery to chemical serology. This workshop is engineered to foster student proficiency in deductive reasoning, analytical chemistry, and the application of the scientific method to legal inquiries.
Activities will include: creating black fingerprint dusting powder and lift fingerprints on non-porous surfaces, with Iodine on porous surfaces, lab with hair - making a cast of the hair, using chemicals and fire on hair, burning fiber evidence (different types of fibers, cotton, polyester, wool, etc.), toolmarks and clay - determining which hammer was used at a crime scene, gunshot residue lab, chemically restoring serial numbers on metal where the serial numbers have been filed off, bite mark impressions, blood spatter/blood typing to name a few.
Special instructions
This workshop will be held at Cisco College/Abilene Campus located at 717 Industrial Blvd, Abilene.
The Abilene Crime Lab will be onsite and present a mini session.
