Dive deep into effective strategies and tools for teaching students with the most complex learning needs how to read. This session will explore evidence-based materials and adaptable resources that support literacy development at every level of access.
Leave with a toolkit ready to engage your students in the classroom.
Participants will explore a variety of instructional tools including:
Early Literacy Skills Builder (ELSB) – a structured and systematic program designed for learners with significant cognitive disabilities.
Books from the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation – designed with predictable text and visual supports to enhance comprehension and engagement.
Reading for ALL Learners Starter Kit – a progressive, phonics-based approach to early reading instruction.
Free and Accessible Online Resources such as Monarch Reader, Newsela, and other adaptive reading platforms to expand student opportunities for meaningful literacy experiences.
