Patterns of Wonder and Power with Author Whitney La Rocca
Embrace the wonder and power of writing with Whitney La Rocca. Experience the Invitational Process for the Conventions of Language that she and Jeff Anderson pioneered in PreK-5 and that is highlighted in our Texas Literacy Academy. Begin the morning with Patterns of Wonder: Inviting Emergent Writers to Play with the Conventions of Language. Learn the design of the lessons, the phases of emergent writing, the theory of the invitational method, and witness the modeling of the Patterns-of-Wonder process. In the afternoon, transition to Whitney's guidance of Patterns of Power: Inviting Children into the Conventions of Language. Learn why the design of those lessons is different, notice the change in the invitational method and again witness Whitney's modeling of the Patterns-of-Power process. Since Patterns of Wonder is for PreK-1 and Patterns of Power is for 1-5, participants will be able to provide excellent differentiation in the early writing life of a child. PreK-5!
Special instructions
This opportunity is a gift to all of our PreK-5 teachers in our districts that are currently using Patterns of Wonder and Patterns of Power and for all our PreK-5 teachers who have heard about the invitational model through the Texas Literacy Academy and want to know how to use it effectively. Participants will not receive the books, but are free to bring personal copies as well as a personal notetaking system.
