Effective and Ethical Speech/Language Services for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students
This course will provide speech-language pathologists with information and strategies needed for assessing English language learners and students from diverse language and cultural backgrounds. Best practices for assessment (as well as compliance with IDEA requirements) will be explained, and specific tools will be demonstrated. Ethical issues that impact this process will be discussed.
This workshop is for Speech-Language Pathologists.
This program has been approved for 5.50 clock hours of continuing education credit (includes 2 hours of ethics) by the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA). TSHA approval does not imply endorsement of course content, specific products, or clinical procedures. $10 fee collected at the door (cash or check only)
Special instructions
Will provide general information regarding the impact of second language acquisition and cultural diversity on speech and language assessment. The ethical issues surrounding assessment and eligibility determination for students from CLD backgrounds will be explored. Language proficiency assessment, legal considerations and requirements, and strategies for family communication will also be addressed. Also, specific strategies for articulation, language, and fluency assessment.
