Childhood Apraxia of Speech: Assessment and Treatment
Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) only affects a small proportion of children with speech sound disorders, but it is notoriously difficult to treat. This session will present some new ways of thinking about CAS, including use of integral stimulation, motor-learning principles, cycles, and a frame-content model for treatment.
This presentation will provide an overview of recent developments in the assessment and treatment of childhood apraxia of speech, and include activities which allow participants an opportunity to practice application.
Participants will be able to:
1. identify characteristics of childhood apraxia of speech
2. select appropriate assessment procedures for CAS
3. identify at least two appropriate intervention approaches, based on a speech sample analysis
