Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) October 15, 16, and 18
Advancing Educational Leadership (AEL) is organized to facilitate participants' recognition of the connections and relationships between and among the major functions of school leadership. AEL features five conceptual themes: creating a positive school culture; establishing and sustaining vision, mission, and goals; developing self and others; improving instruction; and managing data and processes.

The seven strands of AEL align to the principal standards established by TEA. As compared to the five conceptual themes of AEL, the seven strands of AEL are skills that successful school leaders must know and be able to do. These seven strands include team building; effective conferencing; conflict resolution; goal setting; data gathering and analysis; teacher coaching and mentoring; and curriculum.
Special instructions
AEL has replaced the Instructional Leadership Development (ILD) training that was used with the previous appraisal system. AEL is a co-requisite for all participants planning to take the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) training to become a certified T-TESS appraiser.

AEL is a co-requisite (must be completed prior to conducting T-TESS observations) for T-TESS appraiser training.
