Creating a Community: The State Epileptic Colony in Texas Hosted by the Grace Museum
The workshop will highlight the early history of the State Epileptic Colony in Abilene through over 50 photographs from The Grace’s permanent history collection and the corresponding exhibition (on view October 10, 2020 - September 25, 2021). Participants will engage directly with exhibition artifacts and content through presentations, object-making, and storytelling practice. Workshop curriculum will be designed for US and Texas History teachers, as well as the Gifted and Talented teachers. Curriculum objectives will include an investigation of Epileptic Colony site intent/ purpose, construction and use, local narrative history, primary source ephemeral objects, as well as a study of exhibition objects and content. Curriculum and activities will include creative writing, cooperative learning projects, primary source investigation, as well as an exploration of pertinent historical artifacts from The Grace Museum collection.
Special instructions
Additional resources such as post- program activities, printable images of museum collection artifacts, and raffled free class supply sets will be provided.

**Registrants should be advised that a portion of the workshop will take place outdoors, and should dress for Texas Summer weather!**
